The AI that has kept them alive so far can do nothing more for them unless they become part of that civilization. The change was never meant for their species, and they go through it without knowing if they will survive.

They come out of it as wholly new creatures who still look like themselves, with access to technology so advanced it would look like magic. Up to now, most of what happened to them was part choice, part chance. This was entirely a choice.

The small glowing form Jack is looking at is that AI, appearing as a physical object for the first time after months as a voice spread across the abandoned city. The three bands appear throughout the series whenever something is being transformed — matter into energy, gravity into force. Three bands around a glowing hub was the first image Aon ever had of this story.

Aon uses the full color spectrum in only a few paintings, saved for the biggest moments. The painting took about two months of painting time, after model-making, model photography and lighting studies.

Back home, Aon's friend Victus, who built the folding drive, believes he killed him. Now that Aon and Jack can turn the planet's technology back on, they have a way home. From here on, the ships and machines of the lost civilization start coming back to life.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0596/7842/5199/files/Fulcrum_SD_RD_84428656-88ba-4f84-a0f4-bc548e657d66.jpg?v=1791957736
