Morning Coffee is part of Jack the Space Dog, an ongoing series of science fiction paintings following Aon and his German Shepherd, Jack, through multidimensional space. It shows the planet where they crash-land: an ancient, unpopulated city with towers rising from the water. Each morning, Aon walks to a cliffside rock above the abandoned city and drinks a cup of coffee with Jack beside him.

It is a painting about making the best of an impossible situation — being lost somewhere beautiful and choosing, for a moment, to simply be there.

Every architectural detail was worked out through physical models and lighting studies before it reached the canvas. The painting is entirely hand-painted.
