Morning Coffee is part of an ongoing series of science fiction paintings called Jack the Space Dog — following Aon and his German Shepherd companion Jack through multidimensional space. This work depicts the planet where they crash land on, finding an ancient, unpopulated city with towers rising from water. Each morning, Aon finds his way to a cliffside rock overlooking the abandoned city and drinks a cup of coffee with Jack beside him. It is a painting about making the best of an impossible situation — the quiet dignity of being lost somewhere beautiful and choosing, for a moment, to simply be there.

Every architectural detail was developed through physical model-making and lighting studies before being translated to canvas. The work is entirely hand-painted.
